Tama Ma – Review

Tama Ma
featuring
Taane Mete and Tairoa Royal.
Tama Ma is a dance journey of two men from birth through live into manhood.
It is an extraordinary collaboration of some of New Zealand’s most significant artists. The choreographies in the show are (for each part) by Tairoa Royal, Tairoa Royal with Taane Mete and Mark Summerville, Douglas Wright and Michael Parmenter and by Tairoa Royal and Taane Mete.
Tama Ma – is a potent threaded fabric of New Zealand dance from two physical geniuses. These Taane Mete and Tai Royal choreographies flawlessly expose extreme artfulness. Tama Ma is a work of conceptual magnitude, with a little humour to carry something far more gritty and spectacular. These two have extraordinary interpretive power – most vividly displayed in the forth part Hand to Hand, exploring duality and conflict in the selves we wear.
Dance this good is music for the eyes.
